How many subjects can I have in 1 print?

One of the questions we're asked most often is how many pets or people can fit into each portrait. The answer depends on the style you've chosen. Some designs work best with just one or two subjects, while others give us a little more room to play with. We always want your portrait to look its best, so we've put together a quick guide to help you see your options.

Cartoon Pet Portraits

We can fit up to 6 pets into one Cartoon Pet Portrait. We would normally recommend 3 as the sweet spot to keep everything feeling a bit more spacious, but we can do more if that's what you'd like! Just note that the subjects may overlap slightly to fit everyone in.

Detailed Pet Portrait

We can do 3 pets for our Detailed Pet Portraits, with 2 being the recommended number. Because this style is a big focus on the fur and texture of the animal, cramming lots of subjects into 1 print makes it feel a bit too cramped and you won't see as much fluff as we would like.

Spotlight Portrait

We recommend up to 3 pets for our Spotlight Portraits, with 2 being our favourite layout. The Spotlight style is designed to keep all the attention on your pet, so giving each illustration enough space helps the shadow backdrop stay clean and the portrait nice and sharp.

People Portrait

Our People Portraits usually require a bit more detail than our pet ones, which is why we cap them at 4. 2-3 is usually the best choice for this style.

Faceless Portrait

We can fit up to 4 people into one Faceless Portrait. This gives everyone enough room without the illustration feeling too busy, while still keeping all of the little details that make the style so recognisable.

Locket Portrait

We strongly recommend 1 or 2 subjects for our Locket Portraits. The illustration sits inside a much smaller locket design, so keeping the number of subjects low helps every detail stay clear and ensures the finished print doesn't feel overcrowded.
